지난 13일 전남대치전원 임상교육관 5층 평강홀에서는 전남대학교치의학전문대학원(원장 강병철)과 바이오미네랄장애연구센터(센터장 고정태)가 공동으로 ‘International Symposium on Biomineralization’ 주제 국제 심포지엄을 개최했다.
이번 심포지엄은 ‘생체 내 다양한 무기질화 과정’과 ‘임플란트 개발’에 대한 최신 지견을 공유하는 시간으로 치러졌다. 미국, 일본, 중국, 홍콩을 비롯해 국내에서 15명의 저명 과학자가 초청되었으며, 교수, 학생 및 연구원 150여명이 참석한 가운데 집중도 있는 심포지엄을 진행했다.
특별 강연 초청연자로 나선 미국 Rush University Medical Center의 Guozhi Xiao 교수는 ‘Novel roles of cell adhesion protein Kindlin-2 in regulation of skeletal development and homeostasis’ 주제 발표를 통해 뼈, 연골의 무기질화 과정에서 Kindlin-2 단백의 중요함을 새롭게 제시했다.
이어진 주제 세션 시간에는 뼈 조직에서의 무기질화에 대한 주제로, Xin Liang(중국 대련대) 교수가 ‘Sensory innervation and trabecular structures integration around immediately vs. delayed loaded implants’을, 김선헌(전남대치전원) 교수가 ‘Relaxin: more than connective tissue turnover’, Takashi Nakamura(일본 동북대소아치과) 교수가 ‘Novel smoothened agonists promote osteoblast differentiation in C3H10T1/2 cells and osteoblastic cells from Runx2-deficient mice’을 주제로 강연을 이어갔다.
또 Yasuyuki Sasano(일본 동북대) 교수가 ‘Remodeling of extracellular matrices and biomineralization during bone development and healing’에 대한 강연을, 류현모(서울대) 교수가 ‘The combination of epigenetic modifications and canonical WNT signaling enables direct programming of non-osteogenic cells into osteoblasts’을 주제로 한 최근 연구 내용을 발표했다.
‘치아와 연골에서의 무기질화’를 주제한 두 번째 세션에서는 김재영(경북대) 교수가 ‘Genome wide screening and functional evaluation of signaling molecules involved in tooth development’, 황윤찬(전남대) 교수가 ‘Approach to the preservation of pulp vitality’, 김대원(연세대) 교수가 ‘A novel approach for osteoarthritis prevention and modification’, 류제황(전남대) 교수가 ‘Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5 governs Wnt-mediated osteoarthritic cartilage destruction’ 주제 강연을 이어갔다.
마지막 세션은 ‘생체 재료 및 조직 재생 분야’에 대한 강연이 이어졌다.
강연은 James Kit-hon Tso(홍콩대 치과재료학)가 ‘Development of osseointegratable electrospun PLLA biocomposite materials’, 배태성(전북대)가 ‘Surface modification of titanium implants’, 유현승(대웅제약) 대표이사가 ‘Development of bone graft substitutes in Korea’, 박영준(전남대) 교수가 ‘Strategy of titanium alloy design for tailored implant surface and osteoconductivity enhancement’에 대해 발표했다.
국제 심포지움은 전남대학교 치의학연구소, 4D연구소, RIS센터, 치과재료학연구소가 후원했으며, 전남대 치전원의 자매 결연대학인 동북대, 홍콩대, 대련대에서 해외 초청 연자로 나서 전남대 치전원의 연구력 증진은 물론 자매 결연대학과의 학술 교류 측면에서도 성과가 있었다.
