이 코너를 맡기로 한 녹슨퍄노님은 아직 준비가 더 필요한 것 같습니다. 누구에게나 처음은 쉽지 않은 법입니다. 다년간 뉴에이지 분야 인기 블로거로 활동해온 그임에도 전문매체에 고정칼럼을 갖는다는 건 또 다른 부담인가 봅니다. 녹슨퍄뇨님은 4월 개편에 맞춰 더욱 신선하게 만나 뵙도록 하고, 그동안 막간을 이용해 제가 올드팝을 몇곡 더 소개하도록 하겠습니다. 

지난번 Cranberries의 Dreams를 소개하자 독자 한 분이 'Zombie'를 언급하지 않은 데 대해 서운해 하셨습니다. 이 분 말씀으론 크랜베리스 하면 가장 먼저 떠오르는 곡이 '잠비'라는 거죠.

그렇고 말고요. 1994년에 발표한 2집 앨범 'No need to Argue'에 들어 있는 이 곡 Zombie는 발매되자마자 유럽에서 선풍적인 인기를 끌면서 단숨에 수백만장의 음반을 팔아치웠다고 합니다. 한때 TV 오디션 프로그램의 단골 레퍼토리이기도 했고요.  

아일랜드 출신 4인조 밴드인 크랜베리스의 매력은 아무래도 여성 보컬 Dolores O'riordan에게로 모아집니다. 그녀의 끝을 비틀듯 꺽어 올리는 창법은 국내에서도 몇몇 밴드들이 따라 한 적이 있습니다. 물론 어느 누구도 오라이어던의 매력을 되살리지는 못했지만 말이죠.

1990년 기타리스트인 Noel Hogan과 베이시스트 Mike Hogan 형제 그리고 드러머 Fergal Lawler가 함께 결성한 크랜베리스는 새로운 보컬을 찾던 중 작사 작곡이 가능한 여성보컬 오라이어던을 영입하게 되었답니다. 이들 입장에선 한 마디로 호박이 넝쿨째 굴러들어온거죠.

4월이면 생각나는 노래, Chris De Burgh의 'The Girl with April in her Eyes'도 함께 준비했습니다. 즐감~~
